Historical buildings, good restaurants and the birthplace of Marie Curie
If you walk through the gate of the new town, in Venetian style, and the Barbacane, which was built in the 16th century as a reinforcement of the gate, you’ll reach the new town directly from Old Town. The ambiance remains similar: cobbles, houses which are appearing old and low, restaurants, churches. You’ll only notice a slightly different character of this district only at second glance: The façades are considerably less prestigious. A special, almost melancholy charm lies over the Market Square of the new town. The birth place of the famous physicist Marie Curie is located at ul. Freta.
