Kazimierz can feel like a ghost town even in the middle of summer - it was home to a thriving, vibrant Jewish community dating back to the 14th century, but after they were all deported and/or exterminated during WWII, the neighborhood never really recovered. But despite its completely changed demographics, one can still get a good sense of its history in the numerous synagogues and museums, as well as the original architecture that has survived somewhat intact
