The Bay of Banderas has to offer more than two dozens of golden beaches.
Some of the most beautiful beaches in and around Puerto Vallarta are Playa Mismaloya and Yelapa about 10km South of the town.
Despite the 1 million visitors every year the atmosphere of the small fishing town Puerto Vallarta (350,000 people), based around the Río Cuale, is still typically Mexican: little cobblestone streets, red tiled roofs and cute balconies with colorful flowers.
However, the North and the coast are heavily under construction with many new hotels and restaurants appearing left, right and center. The beaches are busy and besides the classical water sports you can also book horseback trips into the jungle. During the “hora feliz” – the Happy Hour – people meet at the bars and cafes along the Malecón.
