The village is situated in a protected bay, surrounded by beautiful beaches, forested hills and cliffs
Along with the beach resort Ixtapa – a paradise planned on the drawing board only in 1975 – Zihuatanejo is one of the most restorative travel destinations on the Mexican Pacific coast.
Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo travel guide last edited by marcopolo
There are daily flights to Zihuatanejo from Mexico City and other Mexican or US airports (the airport is located 14km/8.7mi south-east of Zihuatanejo). A bus trip to Zihuatanejo takes 9 hours from Mexico City and 4 hours from Acapulco. Driving from Mexico City on the well-maintained wide Autopista del Sol (MEX 95) and the MEX 200, you will reach Zihuatanejo in about 7.5 hours. From Acapulco it is a 240km/149mi drive on the MEX 200. It is not advisable to take the route via Toluca and Ciudad Altamirano because the roads are bad and there is a high risk of hold-ups.
