The well-known, rather small Blue House with green shutters is the birthplace of the painter (1907–1954). The rooms have been kept as they were during the lifetime of the artist who spent much of her life in a wheelchair. Leon Trotsky was a guest here when he lived in Mexico (after 1937). Aside from personal items and works by both artists, the studio-museum shows mostly paintings and sculptures by 18th and 19th-century Mexican artists. Pre-Columbian artefacts from Frida Kahlo’s private collection are also on display. While the exhibited works of Kahlo are less significant, they quite well express the pain in her life. The painting"El Marxismo Dará la Salud a los Enfermos" (Marxism gives health to the sick) shows the artist tossing her crutches aside. An unfinished portrait of Stalin, a picture of her wheelchair and, famously, Rivera’s hat lend the memorial a personal note.
