Štrbské Pleso is a settlement, a ski and health resort, in the High Tatras in Slovakia. It has been part of the municipality Vysoké Tatry since 1948.
Štrbské pleso in a wider sense is also the name of a cadastral area consisting of the settlements Štrbské Pleso, Vyšné Hágy and Podbanské (see Vysoké Tatry (town) for details)
The settlement was first recorded in 1872 when Jozef Szentiványi, the local lord, built there a gamekeeper's lodge at the lake Štrbské pleso (spelled with a small P), from which it derives its name. The resort was considerably modernized in the 1970s, including the construction of several hotels, ski jumps etc. (...)
