High Alps of Velika Planina: shepherd's hut high in the mountains
Two castles watch over the old small town at the foot the Steiner Alps (Kamniske Alp): The old castle, Stari Grad, is 800 years old and actually the newer one of the two – yet it’s all ruins; the small castle, Mali Grad, is partially restored and soars on a boulder in the middle of town. The Steiner Alps, jagged in the north, drop off here at the south-facing slopes in gentle plateaus and hills; Velika Planina, the big plateau, was used as a High Alps for centuries.
