For years, the Bay of Assos (Behramkale, pop. 1,600, 31 miles from Çanakkale) was a well-kept secret of İstanbul artists. In the summer months it can become rather crowded these days, but the village is still the pearl at the Gulf of Edremit. In the ancient world, Assos was a famous center of science: Aristotle taught there for three years.
