A large port city by the Aegean Sea.
Izmir is, first of all, a big metropolis and port. It serves tourists well as a transportation hub, if they want to explore the many nearby archaeological sites and beaches. But Izmir is also a worthy destination by itself, especially if you are looking for a city with a rich cultural life and a mild climate that is close to the sea.
