Fethiye was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in the 1950s, so most of the ancient buildings are gone. Mostly ruins of ancient tombs survived the natural disaster. Today Fethiye is known as a holiday destination for locals and international tourists. Its great, sandy beaches attract a large crowd and transform the little town and nearby resorts into vibrant tourist spots during the summer.
