Turkey's most famous bay
This world-famous azure lagoon has a bright sandy beach surrounded by trees. A part of the surrounding coastal region is heavily developed. The Meri is the oldest and most beautiful hotel here and also the only hotel directly on the lagoon (94 rooms, phone 0252/617 00 01, fax 617 00 10, http://www.hotelmeri.com, expensive). Boats travel from Ölüdeniz Dolmuş to the "butterfly valley" (Kelebek Vadisi). This bay owes its name to the gigantic butterfly colony that populates the hillsides. The area was made a nature preserve in 1995.
