South Coast Turkey
The sea is saltier than in the Aegean Sea, and the people are different, too. Winters are mild and sunny which makes the area so attractive to retired expats from Europe. Stereotyped as German colony, this stretch is generally more avoided by local tourists. Nevertheless, the wide, sandy beaches make it the perfect place for a family vacation. But the region has also appeal to the more adventurous minded. Start in Antalya, the fasted growing Turkish city, with its vibrant cultural life. The annual Altin Portakal film festival draws movie stars as well as movie crowds. Take a bus east to Kemer and you will be rewarded with some of Turkey’s best beaches, emerald-colored waters as far as you can see. Stop over at Olympos, a small traveler commune with tree huts that attract backpackers from all around. Take a Blue Voyage tour and sail east along the rocky coastline with its steep mountains, be rewarded with lots of idyllic isolated bays inaccessible from the inner land. And check out the famous archeological sites dotted along the sea. Travelers, what could you ask for more?
