Temple of Olympian Zeus

This gigantic structure is over 700 years old

The most powerful columns of Athens are part of the Olympieion, the temple of Olympic Zeus. 15 still stand upright, the sixteenth one has remained intact lying down. The architectural history of the temple is more than 700 years old. On the inside, a Zeus statue made of ivory and gold and an equestrian statue of the emperor were worshipped. Earthquakes destroyed the temple in the course of the centuries.
