Old Russian style in the western part of town

This church was built between 1883 and 1907 in the Old Russian style. It’s similar to Basil’s Cathedral on the Red Square in Moscow. It brought an unknown touch to the expanding Petersburg of the late 19th century. It was an abrupt change in style which was criticized intensely. The church was completely restored recently and opened as a “Museum of the Russian Mosaic”. The bench bridge across the Gribojedow Channel offers a fantastic view of the church.
