The oldest and second-largest building in the city dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul.

The construction of a fortress on “Rabbit Island” started on May 16th, 1703; it was dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul. The day of the laying of the foundation stone is celebrated as the town’s birthday. The fortress has the form of an irregular hexagon. The first complex was made out of wood but replaced by stone building in 1706; 20,000 people worked on this building and the complete works was finished in 1740.
