The Taoists' "White Cloud Temple"
The most active of Beijing's Taoist temples, Baiyun Guan is comprised of several halls with altars and statues of deities, many of which date back to the 17th century. Once upon a time it was the most influential Taoist temple in China, and today it has become a major pilgrimage site. A few dozen monks reside at the monastery, and you'll know them not only by their standard blue garments, but also by the hair buns gracing the tops of their heads.
