The second largest Confucian temple in China
Located next door to the Imperial Academy, the Temple of Confucius was built in 1302. It houses stone tablets inscribed with the names of scholars who passed the Imperial Examination, as well as 189 stone slabs on which are inscribed the "Thirteen Confucian Classics." The complex also includes courtyards, gates, pavilions, and some lovely old trees - one in particular, the "Touch Evil Cypress," is reputed to have knocked off the hat of a corrupt official who walked by.
