Birżebbuġa is a town (population 8,668 (Nov 2005)) and port on Marsaxlokk Bay in southern Malta. The name of the town is Maltese for "Żebbuġa's Well". The word Żebbuġa (Arabic: Wild Olive) is probably an Arabic personal name dating back to Malta's Islamic period.
The town is most well known for the Ice Age fossils found in nearby cave called Ghar Dalam (Dalam's Cave). Birżebbuġa parish church is dedicated to St. Peter in Chains. (...)
