At the beginning of the river valley, in the impressive canyon Quebrada, you’ll enter the kingdom of Pachamamas. A chain of little Indian villages and the remains on Incan fortresses give an idea of the life of the Indians in colonial towns. Ruta National 9, winding through the valley, was the artery to the rich mines of Potosí and even earlier, during the 17th century, the royal road of the Incas.
