The "Aqueduct of Free Waters" is one of the 18th century's greatest feats of engineering. It is also one of the city's most striking landmarks, even surviving the earthquake of 1755 undamaged. It only ceased operation in 1967. The footpath across the aqueduct can now be walked across again.
