Impressive Leiria Castle was erected in 1135. Parts of the castle walls and the keep, built in 1324, are well preserved. A beautiful Gothic door from the castle church is still standing. In the centre of town one should see the grand palaces and town houses (16th-17th centuries) and the cathedral.
