Counties West Cork and Kerry are very popular with foreigners, and many have not remained summer visitors to the southern Ireland, but have settled here. The backcountry mostly consists of rolling lake country. Innumerable small islets peek out of the water off the craggy shores, and almost every small cove houses a tiny fishing village. There are occasionally small sandy beaches between the bays. The soft, fertile hills of County Limerick stretch out towards the North, where a living is most often made from farming. The area has many towns stemming from Norse occupation as well as picturesque river valleys with pretty villages dotting their banks.
