In Donegal and Sligo, Ireland’s northernmost counties, mountains, fine sandy beaches, numerous lakes and shattered coasts shape the countryside.
The sun is often hidden behind clouds, but Donegal and Sligo are charming in their own right, the mountainous terrain rises up majestically from the water. Witnesses to the past are found almost everywhere, such as the tombs of Carrowmore, probably Ireland's oldest burial site, remnant of a prehistoric death cult, and many Bronze-Age stone circles. The West of Donegal is also interesting, as Gaelic culture and language are still widespread, and people work mostly as farmers or in the tweed weaving industry. Meantime there is a lot of work being done in tourism; there is even a direct flight from Dublin to Carrickfinn in western Donegal.
