The old people's home for singers and musicians originates from an endowment by Giuseppe Verde (1813-1901), who is buried, together with his second wife Giuseppina Strepponi, in a crypt in the inner courtyard. A bronze memorial of Verdi by Enrico Butti from the year 1913 stands on the piazza in front.
