Pleasure palace built by Arab architects, near the Capuchin convent. The interior, with ponds that are fed by springs, has been impeccably restored. The hall has a beautiful stalactite ceiling.
One of the finest examples of Arab-influenced Normannenbauten in Sicily. The muqarnas (honeycomb ceiling) and waterways reminiscent of Arabian palaces. Strikingly, however, is the massive, fortress-like character of the building. About the actual function of the Zisa (begun 1165) is puzzled: a hunting lodge, has a summer home to a harem for the Norman king, everything is possible.
