Sëlva (Selva) (Italian: Selva di Val Gardena; German: Wolkenstein in Gröden; Ladin: Sëlva; Latin: Silva) is a comune (municipality) in the Gardena Valley (Val Gardena) of the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 70 km northeast of the city of Trento and about 30 km east of the city of Bolzano. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,570 and an area of 53.2 km².
Sëlva (Selva) borders the following municipalities: Badia, Campitello di Fassa, Canazei, Corvara, San Martin (San Martino), and Santa Crestina Gherdëina (Santa Cristina Valgardena). The majority of the population speaks Ladin as first language. The name derives from the Latin silva ("wood").
It is perhaps best known as one of the starting points of the Sella Ronda ski tour. (...) more....
