Manfredonia

The town's name recalls its founder, Manfred, son of Frederick II. He had it built for the inhabitants after Siponto was destroyed by an earthquake in 1223. The castle, built at the same time, now houses an archaeological museum whose exhibits include mysterious Daunian steles (6th century B.C.).
