Hearty snacks and cultivated coffee: The buffets and coffee houses of Trieste
The many tight rows of houses, especially the imposing neoclassical palaces from the 19th century, in Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia by the old port serve as a reminder that Trieste was once the leading Adriatic port in Austria-Hungary. A magnificent view of city and sea offers San Giusto Hill above the old town; the Trieste Cathedral and the Castello di San Giusto are also here.
