One of Italy's most important cities in economic terms, Modena also has many beautiful buildings. Those grouped around the Piazza Grande and the magnificent Romanesque cathedral, are UNESCO world heritage sites. Building on the cathedral started in 1099 and the Ghirlandina Tower is 86 m high.
