Catania is the vibrant centre of the east coast whose appearance is distinguished by numerous Baroque palaces, the harbour and the massive Castello Ursino. The town's central landmark is an elephant fountain made of black lava stone. The town is also famous for what must be Sicily's prettiest fish market.
Saint Agata Cathedral: a norman Cathedral ( near Piazza del Duomo) is outstanding and worth a visit. An annual festival to commemorate the life of Saint Agatha takes place in Catania, Sicily, every February (from 3 to 5).
Three days of folklore, tradition, cult, and devotion, that stands almost alone in the world.
