Stonehouse

Stonehouse is a small town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located on Avon Water in an area of natural beauty and historical interest and near to the Clyde Valley. It is situated on the A71 a few miles south of its junction with the M74.
In 1971 Stonehouse was designated one of Scotland's New Town's, it was designated for Glasgow overspill, but already there were signs of a change in policy with the renewal of older property and a determined attempt to regenerate areas within the city of Glasgow. East Kilbride, Cumbernauld and Livingston, in particular, have proved to be very successful new towns and undoubtedly offered a transformation in the living conditions of tens of thousands of the population. Due to these implications Stonehouse was never built, years were spent bickering over whether to build or not to build and then in 1976 an answer came,they would not build Stonehouse as a New Town.
