One of England's most beautiful castles
Warwick Castle's beautiful grounds, with its overflowing gardens and meandering peacocks, belie its military past and sometimes violent usage. Built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it was mainly used for defensive purposes; however, on occasion it also held prisoners, among them King Edward IV. It's no wonder that certain areas of the castle are said to be haunted - disturbing wax figures throughout further lend to a vague sense of creepiness. But in a country where there's castles practically everywhere you look, this is one of the must-sees. It is truly breathtaking to see.
