The Royal Mile

Edinburgh's showpiece mile running from the castle through the old part of the city as far as the seat of government.

The Royal Mile, which Daniel Defoe described as the "finest street in the entire world", is home to country and cashmere shops and also souvenir shops. The street runs for around 1.6 km from the castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen's Residence.
