The oldest public museum in Scotland
The Hunterian Art Gallery is a varied collection of art and more bequeathed to the University of Glasgow by William Hunter, and anatomist and scientist. Though you will find a fair bit of art here, Hunter's interests ran the gamut from book and manuscripts to coins, minerals, and biological specimens, all of which are well-represented in the galleries. In the years since its inception in 1807, the Hunterian Art Gallery has become known for its collection of paintings by favorite sons Charles Rennie MacIntosh and James McNeill Whistler.
