The Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle Upon Tyne in North East England is located on New Bridge Street. It was founded in 1901, and opened in 1904. It is now managed by Tyne and Wear Museums and sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. In front of the gallery is the Blue Carpet.
It hosts many different types of artwork, including oil painting, watercolours, glass, ceramics (including Maling pottery), and also contemporary art by up and coming artists. The gallery boats an extensive collection of works by John Martin, including the dramatic "The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah", as well as important works by Burne-Jones, Ben Nicholson, Sir Joshua Reynolds and Holman Hunt, including "Isabella and the Pot of Basil".
