Borough Market

International Food Paradise

Though fruit and vegetables have been sold here since the 13th century, that has taken a backseat to the numerous food stalls that have popped up, catering to local office workers, tourists, and anyone else lucky enough to be able to stop in during the day on Thursday or Friday. Try the immensely popular chorizo and rocket sandwich from Brindisa, or the cheese sandwich from Bill Oglethorpe's cart that Ruth Reichle once proclaimed as the "platonic form of a cheese sandwich." This is also a great place to go for organic food, English farmhouse cheese, delicious pastries, olives, sausage and other snack foods you can then take to the South Bank for a picnic lunch.

  • This place has fresh fruits and veg, plus chutneys, jams, meats, cheeses, and famous sandwiches. It's quite touristy, but big enough to accommodate the crowds.

The market is crammed between the wonderful old elevated railway tracks made ??of brick. It's best to simply stroll through the alleys and let yourself drift away.
