Today's charming park was once the site of a citadel, hated by the Catalans. Erected in 1715 by Philip V after laying siege to Barcelona, the fortress served as a prison to subjugate the Catalans. Alongside there are two other noteworthy pavilions: the Hiveracle, an airy construction made of glass and wrought iron, and the Umbracle, a type of tropical greenhouse.
