Cumbernauld (Gaelic: Comar nan Allt) is a new town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, created in 1956 as a population overflow for Glasgow. Its population was 51,300 when estimated in 2004, making it the 6th largest settlement in Scotland, also making it bigger than two of Scotland's Cities, Inverness and Stirling.
