The Day on the Boat - The Night in the Pub
Half an hour away from Harwich, a port town, is Ipswich. The city is highly recommended for a day trip. Just like Harwich, the town has a huge port. In the past, Ipswich’s Wet Dock was the largest coast area that pooled enclosed water of its kind in the United Kingdom. This of course has changed a lot during the last few centuries.
Today, however, it shelters two marinas and a commercial port which are very important for England’s trading business. Along the river, you will find enough restaurants and bars with a huge selection of local food and local brewed beer. Before you enter one of these facilities, try to follow the “Wet Dock Maritime Trail”. You will find these signs everywhere around the harbour and they lead you to the most beautiful maritime architecture and historic buildings and you do not even have to pay for it.
Another alternative would be to take a cruise. Either you decide to take the Harwich Harbour cruise, which will take you about 4 hours where you will pass by different traditional British towns or you choose the Pin Mill Cruise, where you drive down the river for 3 astonishing hours.
Back in town, Ipswich is very attractive for young people, since it provides a lot of funky bars and pubs in old English houses. So even if you become seasick easily, Ipswich is definitely a place worth to visit.
