Past meets future – a journey from medieval times to modernity
Norwich, capital of Norfolk and therefore set in the middle of East Anglia, is an amazing experience for travelers. It does not matter whether you arrive by train or fly to Norwich – you will recognize very soon the medieval flair the city offers: Old churches, magnificent cathedrals, old and narrow lanes, where you will find small boutiques on every corner of the streets. Furthermore, Norwich has a large open-air market that is open 6 days a week and located below the famous Norwich Castle. Now, even if you are not that interested in history -- in contrast to the inhabitants who are proud of their city’s rich history -- you will not be disappointed. Beside old buildings, Norwich is one of the top 5 places to shop in England. The city has two amazingly huge shopping centers, where you will by all means find something that catches your eye.
For travelers interested in architecture, I recommend the Forum – it is a relatively new square, where the Public Library and the local BBC studios are located.
If you have already discovered Norwich’s sights, there are lots of other opportunities for spending your spare time. You can take the boat on the Wensum to Elm Hill – a perfect place for a picnic in the park; visit a real English garden – The Plantation Garden – on a hidden place in the city; or, if you travel with children, you need to see The Dinosaur Adventure Park and watch a show of the Norwich Puppet Theatre. In the evenings, the city equals London’s Covent Garden: You will see comedians, listen to some buskers and enjoy the nightlife. And most importantly: You need to go to a pub, because people in Norwich say that the city has a church for each Sunday of the year and a pub for every day.
