The town has managed the transformation from sardine fishing port to artists' colony without losing any of its charm.
St Ives: light green roofs, almost Mediterranean light, and straight, narrow streets, lined with cottages and exotic gardens. Instead of its former industries of fishing, mining and smuggling, the old port town now lives from art and tourism.
