  • L'Opéra Garnier might just be my favorite landmark in all of Paris. Don't let the squat and ostentatious exterior fool you; on the inside, it is beautiful. Entry to the lobby is free, but if you want to tour the grounds and take steps up the massive red-carpeted staircase - made famous in Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opéra - you'll have to pay an entrance fee.

  • This is such a beautiful building and well worth a visit, even if you don't plan to attend one of the events here. This is the opera house where Phantom of the Opera is set. These days, many of Paris's operas are held at the newer opera house, at the Place de la Bastille.
