An old, attractive market in the Old Town.
Madrid's most attractive market, constructed from glass and cast iron painted light green. Owing to a lack of customers, half of the stalls have unfortunately had to close.

mercado san miguel is a magnificent place for enjoying good spanish tapas and wine. don't go there, keep it pure!
is not a market in the usual sense, but a tapas restaurant with several stand, but all more expensive than each other.
Not exactly cheep (€ 1 each olives, gazpacho € 4.50 - being the cheeper tapas) but very delicious and great to taste all different kinds of tapas. There is also a frozen yogurt place and if you're on a tight budget - sneaking in a bottle of wine is easy. Saturday night this place is packed!
El Mercado de San Miguel is located in the Plaza de San Miguel, which reach out to the west of the Plaza Mayor. The square is presided over by the Mercado de San Miguel, a glass and iron structure of the early twentieth century which houses one of the few covered markets in the city. El Mercado de San Miguel is located in one of the most personality of Madrid. It corresponds to the space that formed the first urban ecinto in medieval times, surrounded by a wall of which still remain traces.
