The blindingly white basilica high above the city on Montmartre hill seems almost unreal. The building was erected as a national memorial after France's defeat at the hands of Germany during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871.
it's worth it at the side entrance enters the 5 € to pay for the very narrow rostrum climb up to the dome. there you have the best view of the entire city including the Eiffel Tower. very worthwhile. The church sees itself at night when it is illuminated from the most beautiful. Next to the Eiffel Tower was the best that Paris has to offer.
In the steeple of the Basilica of Sacre Coeur is the biggest bell in France, which weighs about eighteen toneladas.En the top of the hill of Montmartre (Montmartre) in the north of Paris, about 129 meters high above the Seine, the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur, or Sacred Heart. Montmartre means "mountain of martyrs", which according to the beliefs was the site of the martyrdom of Saint Denis, first bishop of Paris, and his followers. Other saints went through this hill, including St. Joan of Arc, Saint Vincent de Paul and St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis Xavier, who founded the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) in 1534. There on the hill a large Benedictine abbey, which during the French Revolution was destroyed and religious guillotined. From that building survived until today only one of the oldest churches in Paris: Saint Pierre de Montmartre. In 1870 war broke out between France and Germany. French troops left to support the Pope, a prisoner in the Vatican, and in 1871 France was defeated. In this context and as an expiation of guilt (considered the situation in France was a spiritual problem
One of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen. Already, the increase is charming with its narrow streets. Here also many souvenir shops are located. Once at the top unfolds the beauty of this architectural masterpiece
For religious and non religious travellers, the Basilica is a must see in Paris! One of the best views to the city and amazing for architecture lovers!
