The capital of the Auvergne is set in one of the most beautiful lava domes of the Massif Central. At its heart is the Place de Jaude which contains a statue of the Gallic hero, Vercingetorix. Close by, one can see the cathedral, built of lavastone, with its colourful stained-glass windows.
