Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is a charming coastal resort with pretty little streets. The church in the centre dates from the 10th century but was turned into a fortified church in the 14th century. This is demonstrated not only by the fortress-like exterior but also a fountain inside which was used to supply drinking water.
