Kokkola is a port which is still important today. Delightful sights include the quarter comprising twelve streets with wooden buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries and the town hall, which was designed by C. L. Engel in 1841. The school, which was built in 1695 and is today the Historical Museum, is one of the oldest wooden buildings in Finland.
