Rovaniemi, just beneath the Polar Circle, is the only city in Lappland, Finland's biggest province. After being destroyed during the Second World War, reconstruction started based on designs by Alvar Aalto, who took the shape of a reindeer's antlers as his inspiration for the city's structure.
