Allerød is a municipality (Danish, kommune) on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in eastern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 67 km², and has a total population of 23,609 (2007). Its mayor is Eva Nejstgaard, a member of the Conservative People's Party (Det Konservative Folkeparti) political party.
The main town, Allerød, is also the site of the municipal council. Smaller towns inside the minicipality are Blovstrød and the grown-together towns of Lynge and Uggeløse.
Neighboring municipalities are: Birkerød to the south, Hørsholm to the east, Karlebo and Hillerød to the north, Slangerup to the west, and Stenløse and Farum to the south-west.
Allerød municipality was not merged with other municipalities by January 1, 2007 as the result of nationwide Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007).
The warm period after the last ice age (Wisconsin glaciation) is named the Allerød Oscillation after an archaeological site found at Allerød. (...)
