With its many half-timbered houses, the oldest of which dates back to 1527, Køge is one of Denmark's most beautiful medieval towns. The St Nikolai Church has always been a guide for sailors. From its tower Christian V observed the sea battle at which Niels Jul defeated the Swedes in 1677.
